New in-building 5G networks, especially 5G private wireless networks, are supporting a wide range of innovative applications and services across multiple industries. Leveraging 5G’s higher bandwidth and low latency connectivity options, the new networks can provide connectivity in places that were previously not possible to enable innovation, productivity and growth. Case studies include AR/VR, drone and robot control, high bandwidth real-time media and TV connections, emergency services, healthcare and a host of others, seemingly limited only by the imagination.
Watch a replay of WIA’s Webinar on Innovative Applications/Use Cases of 5G Indoors with panelists from Amentum, JMA Wireless and Wesco (recorded on March 19, 2025).
Key Take Aways:
- Military Base Case Study: Gilberto Brizzi discussed a case study involving a military base where JMA provided 4G and 5G coverage for a warehouse and repair depot. The network enabled autonomous driving robots, barcode scanning, and improved inventory accuracy.
- Healthcare Case Study: Mark Rubin highlighted a healthcare case study where private networks improved patient telemetry device connectivity, enhancing mobility and security for healthcare providers.
- Industry 4.0 Case Study: Carla Shaffer shared a case study involving San Diego Gas and Electric using private 5G networks to prevent forest fires by depowering live wires before they touch the ground.
- Stadium Case Study: Gilberto Brizzi discussed the use of private networks in stadiums to enhance user experience and lower maintenance costs, including point-of-sale systems and security cameras.
- Manufacturing Case Study: Mark Rubin described a manufacturing case study where 4G CBRS networks controlled robotic carts to deliver raw materials from outdoor warehouses to fabrication centers.
- Wearables in Manufacturing: Carla Shaffer mentioned the use of wearables in a Texas manufacturing plant to improve employee safety and efficiency.
- 5G Evolution: Mark Rubin emphasized the importance of network slicing in 5G for optimizing parameters and configurations for different use cases.
- Operator Collaboration: Carla Shaffer highlighted the need for collaboration with local operators to deploy networks that can enable both enterprise and operator services.
- Hybrid Networks: Gilberto Brizzi stressed the importance of hybrid networks that serve both enterprise and cellular coverage needs.
- Spectrum Availability: Mark Rubin expressed the need for more CBRS spectrum and better governance to support private networks.
