ARLINGTON, Va. – Today, the Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) and key partners in the broadband industry called on leaders in the US House of Representatives to remove barriers to broadband deployment by streamlining permitting measures.
In a letter to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, WIA, CTIA, the Competitive Carriers Association, INCOMPAS, NATE, NCTA, NTCA the Rural Wireless Association, USTelecom, and WISPA expressed the industry’s collective support for H.R. 3557, the American Broadband Deployment Act (ABDA), sponsored by Rep. Buddy Carter. ABDA passed the US House Energy and Commerce Committee in May 2023 and the industry coalition urged US House leaders to prioritize consideration of the legislation in the final months of this Congress.
The following statement can be attributed to Patrick Halley, President and CEO of WIA:
“Removing barriers to broadband deployment is an essential step to ensure Congress’s historic investment to bridge the digital divide for all communities is successful. As states prepare to release broadband funds, Congress has an opportunity to preserve and strengthen our nation’s broadband deployment position. Enacting the American Broadband Deployment Act will bring predictability and transparency to the permitting process for states, municipalities, and industry.”
