WIA Awards dinner will take place Oct. 1 in Washington, D.C.
ARLINGTON,
Va. – The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) is pleased to announce the 2019
WIA Awards, honoring wireless workforce champions, including Federal
Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr, who is being recognized for his
efforts to develop the wireless workforce necessary to deploy 5G. Hosted by the
WIA Foundation, proceeds from the event will benefit wireless education,
training, and apprenticeship programs. Commissioner Carr, along with additional
honorees to be announced in the near future, will be celebrated at the WIA
Awards dinner on Oct. 1 at the new Conrad Hotel in Washington, D.C. This is the second year WIA has hosted this awards benefit.
“5G
networks are not building themselves and require specialized
skills. That’s why we’re proud to celebrate wireless workforce
champions as we continue the complex task of building 5G
nationwide,” said WIA President and CEO Jonathan Adelstein.
“Commissioner Carr has been instrumental in positioning America to win
the global race to 5G through his focus on building a
trained, safe wireless workforce.”
“America’s
5G workforce relies on training through apprenticeship programs like WIA’s Telecommunications
Industry Registered Apprenticeship Program (TIRAP),” said WIA Vice President of
Workforce Development and Executive Director of TIRAP Grant Seiffert. “We are
proud of the progress TIRAP has made in a short period of time – with 25
employers and nearly 2,000 apprentices, we are poised to play an instrumental
role in addressing the 5G skills gap.”
In connection
with the event, WIA will also offer a 5G workshop training through our Telecommunications Education Center’s (TEC) 5G
Outlook and Technologies Course. The workshop is open to event attendees and
non-attendees.
